Study Abroad in Uganda this May!

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Jasmine Terry and I am a current Master of Social Work student. I've been graced with the opportunity to study abroad this May to study alcohol and alcohol-related harm in the global context: prevention and policy strategies in the community of Kampala, Uganda.

My journey to take on this study abroad has been filled with blessings so far. I was accepted at the last minute, and received $1500 from a scholarship and a generous donation, but I still need to pay the remainder.

$3500 will help pay for the remainder of the trip (airfare, housing, excursions, meals, visa, immunizations)

My deadline is extremely close (April 1), but I have received a lot of support so far. I am ambitious and faithful in reaching this goal!

Feel free to contact me about any questions. Thank you for your support!

****UPDATE as of 3-22-19***:
I have changed the amount needed due to some outside donations I’ve recieved and my true goals of being able to have enough for the plane ticket ($2000) and final deposit of $1000. The extra $500 was to help with vaccinations, visa, passport, and anything else that came up.  But as long as I have the full payments down, I can figure out the rest later. I have bought the passport, have an apointment for vaccinations in early April, and will get the visa after the plane ticket is bought.

If I do make it on the trip, I will be keeping a page for pictures and updates so you all can see how everything goes! I will keep everyone updated on the link to that information as the date gets closer.

Thank you all who have supported and shared this GoFundMe, I’m extremely grateful. I’m very close to reaching the goal, and would love for everyone to please share the page with others who may be willing to help.

***Also, all money will be refunded if it does not work out. If that’s the case, I will update the page again so everyone is aware.***

Please read below to learn more about my journey in the MSW program....

I want to give everyone a little background on my journey in the MSW program so far. This is my first year and by the end of last semester, my advisor had seen me 3 times because I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue in the program. I’m juggling an assistantship, internship, classes, and working an off campus job when I can. Not to mention, I have my own personal life stressors  and trying to balance it all is a lot of work. I considered switching to part time, but there was a concern of hours in my internship that I already completed not being transferred over, meaning I would have to do it again.

After speaking with my advisor, we agreed that waiting to see how I felt after the semester and with my final grades to re-evaluate my options. When the semester ended, I did better than I thought—3.92 GPA,  so I chose to stay and endure what I needed to.

Fast forward to this semester,  it’s been A LOT better. I’m enjoying the program more, got accepted to do this study abroad program and I’m looking forward to all that is to come in my final year!

I’m working really hard to perform my best in all the roles I’ve taken on, so this study abroad trip is serious to me and I’m expecting it to help shape my career and my perspective in life. I do view the trip as a luxury opportunity, so having made it this far is a BLESSING.

If anything, this entire experience has allowed me to trust God more in all areas of my life.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about donating or about my journey in school or with this trip, my number is [phone redacted] !
