Please help us raise $50,000 to bring education and life skills to girls at risk of child marriage, child labor, trafficking and gender-based violence.

Who We Are:

Studio Samuel creates pathways for girls in Ethiopia to become self-reliant through education and employable skills. Our goal is to ensure that the girls and women we serve have the skills and opportunities to be self-sufficient in all aspects of their life, with a particular focus on their education, their experiences and their empowerment.  We opened our training center doors in 2015 and to-date, have created access to education for 6,075 girls at risk of child marriage, child labor, trafficking, and gender-based violence.

We’re based in Yeka, Addis Ababa, and work where girls are at high risk of maternal mortality and gender-based violence, and limited access to adequate nutrition, healthcare, and education.

What We Do:

Training for Tomorrow, our free two-year after-school and weekend life-skills program, empowers girls, ages 9-18, to navigate the various barriers they face. Classes in computer literacy, creative arts, debate, mentoring, and self-defense provide the tools for girls to develop confidence, complete their education, learn employable skills, and know their voices matter. We also provide basic healthcare at our in-house basic-needs clinic and regularly participate in community events. Training for Tomorrow has been a successful component of Studio Samuel’s curriculum for the past six years, led by accredited teachers, counselors, and social workers from our local community. Through this project, 100 girls will participate in the Training for Tomorrow program. The program includes the following components:

Digital Literacy: Girls learn digital  literacy skills to help them further their education and explorefuture careers. From coding skills, tools to research school projects, to National Exam preparation, girls with access to digital resources are more prepared for their future.

Sewing Lab: This job-training initiative teaches girls sewing, pattern-making, and project management skills. In our popular Menstrual Kit Initiative, girls create, produce, and present much-needed feminine-hygiene supplies to their peers in rural areas, thus keeping them from missing or dropping out of school.

Creative Arts + English Language Lab: Our focus on the arts—drama, drawing, and poetry-writing—enables each girl to deal with life’s adversities by learning to use her voice and support her peers. We’re now expanding this course to include an online Peer-to-Peer Language Lab, where students learn English at tablet-equipped remote reading stations.

Library + Tutoring: Studio Samuel graduates have credited their access to our library and tutoring program with a direct link to their acceptance to university. For this, we’re always trying to maintain a current, relevant selection of resource books, periodicals, fiction and non-fiction books, and picture books for those students just learning to read. The library coupled with access to tutors helps our students reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond.

Martial Arts: In a community prone to gender violence, self-defense is an invaluable skill that gives our students the confidence to protect themselves and each other.

Healthcare: Our onsite clinic provides girls and their guardians access to safe, trusted healthcare professionals who can tend to basic needs and work with our local partner clinic for more involved issues.

Please join us today by giving and by sharing our project with friends & family on social media.
