Hello - I'm Christine, head of the Learning Challenges Committee .
The LCC is currently running a program, the Wellness Wish List, to get sensory tools and emotional regulation aides into classrooms in Los Altos and Mountain View California. These provide a "sensory diet " for learning, and are important for inclusion - that every student, any student, that needs these tools can have them for learning - regardless of having a diagnosis or not. If the teacher feels like they need it, we try to provide.
These include items like seating cushions , focus fidgets , chair kickbands , Calm Down Kits and much more.
Most schools in the area have a well-funded PTA that is covering the cost of these important learning tools. But some of the schools either do not have a PTA at all, or they are underfunded. Several PTAs are contributing to a fund to cover costs for these schools as well - but we will likely fall short of the amount needed.
High School A needs $375 worth of items, Elementary School C needs $830 worth of items, Elementary School T needs $1960 worth of items, and several schools need Calm Down Kits supplied to teachers, which cost $10 each and are made by volunteers for cost of materials alone.
