Dear reader,
We are a collective of Brown University students composed of members from End Sexual Violence at Brown (ESV) and Asian/American Political Alliance (A/APA). In response to the recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, our collective of students is coordinating a mutual aid effort to support organizations providing reproductive care for affected communities across the country.
Our goal is to support the needs of vulnerable communities that may not receive the same level of care and protection at this time. We know existing support for reproductive justice is NOT equally distributed. Our choice of organizations recognizes connections between reproductive justice, abolition, and labor across race, gender, sexuality, class, disability, and immigration status.
The organizations we’ll be supporting are:
- Women’s Health & Education Fund Rhode Island, which supports Rhode Islanders who choose abortion or contraceptive care but cannot afford the cost;
- Indigenous Women Rising, an abortion fund that supports Native & Indigenous People seeking equitable and culturally safe health options; and
- Sister Song: The National Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, a Black-led activist organization dedicated to reproductive justice for women of color.
As Brown University students, we are granted privileges by virtue of learning in a state where abortion rights are more protected than in others. However, we also recognize that many of the people we are in community with here at Brown live in places with less legal protection. Many of our own friends, families, and loved ones hold identities that will be disproportionately impacted by state-sanctioned violence and denial of healthcare. We hope to utilize our collective resources to support our community in this mutual aid effort.
The logistics of this campaign are as follows:
- ESV will set up a GoFundMe to collect donations
- At the end of each week, total donations will be split between recipient organizations using the organization’s preferred method of payment
- To ensure 100% transparency, after each transfer, proof of donations will be published on our GoFundMe website
