Hi, my name is Carter,
Im a third year university student and MMU studying Criminology and Sociology.
I went away for 4 months in summer to work and came back to my university accommodation that I had in my previous year only to find it completely destroyed due to black mould.
All of my possessions in that room are destroyed, including all of my clothes, electronic devices, childhood teddies, collectibles, paintings from my girlfriend and more.
My walls were covered in black mould and my ceiling had collapsed onto my wardrobe.
My landlord has no intention of reimbursing me for any of my possessions and has not provided any alternate accommodation. In his view it is all an accident. However, he has had these problems in the past but they have not been properly repaired or maintained
Students around the UK deal with black mould all the time, it is an injustice that landlords can deal with it in such a negligent and push-over way. This is a case more severe than I have even seen in abandoned buildings. I am extremely fortunate to have so many people around me willing to help in any way they can, but many students will not, and they will be alone to find a way to deal with it. This needs to change.
After legal proceedings are complete and compensation is awarded I will be donating the equivalent amount raised to Shelter, the housing advice charity.
Please message me for any more photos or videos of the damage. The pictures alone do not serve it justice.
Thank you.
