Hey everyone,
Many of you have watched me learn, grow and occasionally thrive in my quest to become a midwife. A journey that has taken me all over – from Tacoma, to two years in small-town Maine, back home again, and soon the Bay Area of California. Through this I have been so grateful for all of the support I have received from my family and friends. I, seriously, could not have made it this far without you all.
Here I am, again, continually humbled in asking for your encouragement and support. So, am setting up this site to help streamline fund-raising for my final stretch of student-hood.
So, where will this money being going?
#1 Cost of living as an intern. As many of you have witnessed, internship, school and life-on-call has its challenges. The greatest of these is holding down paid jobs to make ends meet. Moving to California means all new financial challenges as I take on a full-time unpaid internship in an area known for its high cost of living.
#2 Transportation. I love my little Subaru. We have been across the country and back a time or two and she has been an amazingly reliable vehicle. She has put up with all the abuses of my student midwife life with grace. But, my little Subaru is due for some TLC and repairs so that we can continue travelling to births together.
#3 Fees, Fees and Fees. After graduation I will need to acquire professional certification (my CPM from NARM) and state licensing (my LM for WA state). This means lots of test and lots of fees before I can begin to work as midwife. In fact, many hours of testing and upwards of $1,800 in applications fees, testing fees, certification fees, licensing fees, and so on.
Lastly, my future. Any money beyond those needs will go directly towards the cost of starting my own midwifery business, paying off student loans and beginning the next chapter of life.
If anyone has any questions, wishes to donate without using this site, or just wishes to send ever-appreciated words of encouragement, feel free to message me via facebook or email.
Thank you! Every bit is greatly appreciated. <3
-Kate
