Hi! My name is Federico Camins Sanchez, and I’m a passionate filmmaker in my final year of Film and Media at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. I’m directing The Joke’s on You, a dark comedy short film that blends psychological drama, satire, and absurd humor.

This project is a culmination of my creative journey. As a filmmaker, I am fascinated by characters who push themselves beyond their limits, sometimes to the brink of insanity. This film is a mix of everything I love; dark humor, psychological drama, and pure chaos.

Cinematography plays a crucial role in this story, with lighting and composition enhancing the psychological descent of Alex. We are using bold, theatrical lighting to capture the vibrant yet eerie world of comedy clubs and backstage drama.

What We're Raising Funds For

We’re raising money to bring this unique and ambitious short film to life! The Joke’s on You is a dark comedy short film exploring the fine line between ambition and self-destruction. The story follows Alex, an aspiring comedian desperate for recognition, who gets publicly humiliated by the arrogant club comedian, Chad. But after one fateful performance, Alex unwittingly becomes the leader of a bizarre clown rebellion, setting the stage for a surreal and chaotic revenge.

This project blends the psychological depth of Joker with the satirical edge of The King of Comedy, while also embracing the absurd humor of Regular Show and Malcolm in the Middle. It’s a film about passion, failure, and the blurred boundaries between art and madness.

Why This Project Matters

Filmmaking is my passion, and this project represents years of dedication to storytelling, comedy, and character-driven narratives. Independent filmmaking is tough, and without proper funding, it’s difficult to create the film at the level of quality we envision. This project is not just a student film, it’s a chance to showcase our creative abilities and bring something truly entertaining to audiences.

Equipment Rentals: High-quality cameras, lenses, and lighting to give the film a polished, cinematic look.

Location Costs: We’re filming at The Monkey Barrel Comedy Club and other key locations to create an authentic atmosphere.

Festival Submissions: We believe this film has potential, and we want to submit it to major film festivals to gain exposure.

Safety & Comfort: Filmmaking can be demanding, so we’re also ensuring a safe and comfortable set for our cast and crew.
