"Funkboy" - Short Film by Ian O'Boyle

Upon graduating from high school, a hedonistic 18-year-old from New York City is forced to discover a deeper understanding of his relationships after one of his many selfish stunts is taken too far.


ABOUT

Hi! Thank you for visiting our page! My name is Ian O’Boyle and I am the writer, director, and producer of my upcoming student short film, Funkboy. I’m an NYC native and grew up primarily as an actor, but discovered my love for writing and directing at an early age. While in my first year at Pace University, I took the action to make my first ever screenplay a reality with Funkboy. 

This is a story about the coming of age experience of a boy on the cusp of manhood. A look into the experience of a young man I knew was something that’s been told over and over, but the modern experience of a young man in today’s world has changed. In many ways for the better, in many ways for the worse. Funkboy is a tale that tells both sides through the eyes of John, an 18 year-old, self-righteous womanizer and New York native who surrounds himself with his pernicious friend group, blinded by his own selfish pleasures. Though at its core, Funkboy is a story about friendship, family, our natural need to belong, and overcoming the negative forces society has instilled within us.

SCHEDULE

We will be filming over the course of 3-4 weekends starting November 10th, 2019 in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.
