Stuart’s Legacy Ride

In the summer of 2021, my brother Stuart was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a rare and aggressive form of eye cancer that affects only a small number of people each year. After facing his illness with incredible strength and resilience, Stuart sadly passed away in December 2023. Stuart had a true passion for cycling — it was something he loved and found great joy in throughout his life. He also loved driving his lorry, his pride and joy. So to honour his memory and the things he loved most, I’m undertaking a charity cycle in his name, retracing the lorry route he loved and drove with pride for Flanagan Flooring. This journey is not only a tribute to Stuart’s passion for the open road but also a way for us to honour his legacy and raise funds for a cause close to our hearts. As I ride each mile, I will carry his spirit with me fuelled by the same strength, determination, and kindness that defined him. Stuart was a loyal brother and friend, a devoted family man, and someone who brought warmth and laughter wherever he went, always ready with a smile or a helping hand. His presence lit up every room, and his memory will continue to inspire us every day.

The route will take me from Cork back to Flannagan Flooring in Saintfield, and I will be calling in with Stuart’s customers for some reminiscing. The approx. mileage is 520, and I will be starting this challenge on Saturday 16th August, aiming to complete by the following Saturday.
