Burton firefighter/EMT Stuart Hardy is in critical condition after suffering a medical emergency while working an accident scene on Sunday afternoon.

Hardy suffered the emergency while at the scene of an accident near Laurel Bay around noon Sunday and was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital after being assisted by emergency crews from Burton and Beaufort County EMS, then taken later to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston by air transport, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Stuart Hardy is married with three young daughters. A Marine Corps veteran, he has worked for the fire district for about a year.
