On December 7, 2022, Lindsey was diagnosed with stage 2, triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer.
Unfortunately, this is all too familiar for her family. In March 2014, Lindsey’s mother, Becky, was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer which was later determined to be a genetic cancer caused by the BRCA1 mutation. Shortly after her mother’s diagnosis, Lindsey and her sisters underwent genetic testing confirming Lindsey has the BRCA1 genetic mutation which significantly increases the likelihood of breast and ovarian cancer. A short 5 months after Becky’s diagnosis, Lindsey’s sister was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer.
Lindsey and her sisters cared for their mom and watched her fight for almost 7 years without losing her fun, sweet personality, and ability to enjoy life. Unfortunately, Becky passed away in August 2020.
In 2019, at the age of 27, Lindsey had a preventative prophylactic double mastectomy in an attempt to minimize her risk of breast cancer. This made her recent diagnosis all that more surprising and disheartening. Lindsey began chemotherapy on January 5, 2023, and will undergo another double mastectomy in five months. After she recovers from surgery she will continue chemotherapy and immunotherapy for an additional year.
Because this is a genetic cancer, Lindsey is forced to consider the possibility of passing this gene to her future children. IVF and cancer treatment are not only emotionally and physically unimaginable, but both are also extremely expensive.
Lindsey is no longer working and we are organizing this GoFundMe to help with her medical costs that will be piling up over the next year and a half.
Lindsey is fierce, resilient, has an unparalleled sense of humor, and is prepared to fight with everything she has. Words of encouragement and support are always welcome and Lindsey would love to know there are people out there standing in her corner!
