I hope this is not too much to ask for, but I'm trying to raise money to get my things out of storage. I recently moved to South Carolina. I did my research on moving companies and options for my move to South Carolina. I called what I thought was Budget Van Lines; instead, AB Move Services answered the call. I was quoted for a move of $3,678.58 after discounts. A day before the move, Alex called to go over the list again, and I had added more items. But after the price he had given, which was $5,857.92, I explained that it was way too much and advised that I would be taking things off because I couldn't afford that. Apparently, one of the two are the broker, so the day of the move, Star Line Trucking in Hawthorne, N.J., came and didn't have a list of the items nor did he have the updated list as he stated. Instead of a trailer truck, a U-Haul truck was used, and they didn't pack that truck like they advertise on their website, which led to me having to give away and throw my property that was left behind. The only item I was able to add was my deep freezer, which they managed to make room for on the truck after saying it was full and I complained about them not packing it right with gaps. I called the company to complain and spoke with Elizabeth and was told that they packed it the way they were told and that they don't pack the way regular people do. I asked for a copy of the bill from Elizabeth, the customer service rep. I ended up owing $5,604.24 even after paying the $1,100.00 in cash at pick up. I asked her if I could cancel my order, and she explained that once it's on their truck, it becomes their property. I explained that this is like re-buying my items back. After I explained that they didn't pack the truck right, she stated that they are not supposed to pack their trucks to the brim and only stackable items are to be stacked, which they did not do, leaving spaces in the U-Haul truck. Elizabeth said that she would make a call to see if there were other discounts and get back to me, and that was 3 days ago, and I am still waiting. The tariff discount is not on the revised sheet.
I called and spoke with the gentleman from the company to try and resolve this as stated in his response, and he called himself trying to explain about the pricing and that I knew all of this. In fact, that is a lie. He also added that I had added some items and the bulk of the items that were supposed to be on the truck did not go, i.e., the refrigerator, the kitchen table, the dirt bike, the glass coffee table, the 4 air conditioners, the 2 folding tables, 2 mirrors, my turkey fryer, and my larger Kingsford grill. I only went up to 91 items out of the 106. He asked me, so what went on the truck? I said exactly! He stated that I had added more items, in which I had 91 on the truck out of 106 items that were supposed to go. He stated that he could give me a $100.00 discount and put me on hold and came back chewing in my ear and said that he would give me $200.00, and I have to understand they are running a business and that's the best he could do. He also said if I could remove the complaint on the BBB website because it was making their company look bad. Later on that day, August 8, 2025, he called me back and said that Star Line Trucking would give me a discount of $300.00, so in total it would be a $500.00 discount, and that could I give him an answer and asked again if I could remove the complaint. I asked, so the complaint is the only thing you are worried about? If they had packed that truck right with all the stackable items, I would not be stuck with a bill of $8,548.66, in which I had made a payment which brought it down to $5,604.24 that I still have to come up with by the 28th of August to avoid being billed a $600.00 storage fee. I feel like I re-bought everything I own. The way they packed the truck was sloppy and made it look like they did a great job at the end, but it still doesn't show based on the picture on their website. This is supposed to be stress-free as stated to me, not a months-long headache. My photo compared to the website is false advertisement. In the middle, there were a lot of gaps; they threw the box springs in, and at the end, they made it look as if they had packed it to code and took a photo. So I'm asking if anyone could help me. Any amount, big or small, is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
