2 years ago I had surgery on my spine - it wasn't covered by my health insurance, so it cost me $20,000 out of my savings.

Less than 6 months later, I was made redundant. I have over 18 years experience as a fraud prevention professional, so I believed then that I should be able to find a new role within a few months.

Since then, I have applied for over 100 jobs. I am extremely well experienced and qualified for all of them. Most of them don't even respond - they just ghosted me. Most of the rest didn't even give me an interview - in one case, my application was rejected less than an hour after I submitted it. I've had a handful of interviews, all with the same result - very impressed with my skills and experience, but no thanks, we've decided to proceed with another candidate.

With my specialist skills and experience, I would never have imagined that it could be so hard to find another job.

I've attended courses to refine my resume and learn about what I can do to keep improving my chances of landing a new role. I've made improvements to my LinkedIn profile, I've engaged recruitment consultants and I've contacted people in my professional network for help finding a new role, none of which seems to have made any difference. I will continue to apply for more jobs - I don't know what else to do.

In the meantime, I'm going to need financial help - I am proudly independent, so it's really hard to say that.

I've been careful with the redundancy money to make it last this long, but now it's running out, and the jobseeker payments don't even cover my rent. I'm going to end up losing my apartment in just a few months.
