Hi everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Claudia and I’m a mama to 3 beautiful little ones. My first two are 7 and 4 years old. My littlest guy, Santiago, was born in July of this year at only 25 weeks gestation, so he is 5 months actual (amount of time he’s been out in the world) and 2 months corrected (age he would be if he had been born on his due date)

Santiago is a medically complex baby and requires a lot of doctors visits, surgeries, medications and so on, unfortunately this has put a financial strain on my family which is why I need help.

When Santiago was born, he let out a big cry which shocked everyone in the delivery room as it is not common for such premature babies to cry or have that much lung capacity. I knew he’d be a fighter right then and there. Unfortunately, at 3 days of life, I was given devastating news that Santi had suffered massive brain bleeds and was advised to do end of life care. I refused and let my boy fight until he told me he was done. The days went by and the brain bleeds resolved on their own. Unfortunately, they left behind a build up of cerebral spinal fluid in his brain and he required brain surgery to place a ventricular shunt at only 10 weeks of life. Santi continued to recover while still requiring oxygen support. He failed to successfully feed orally so he later required another surgery to place a gastrostomy tube for feeding in his belly. Santi came home and is now requiring laser eye surgery in the next couple of weeks.

This past weekend Santiago began experiencing flu like symptoms and today he felt very cold to the touch and had increased work of breathing so we brought him in to the ED and sure enough, he was in full blown respiratory failure. I don’t have much information right now as to why this is all happening but my sweet boy is intubated and resting for now.

We’re looking at weeks in the hospital and insurance doesn’t fully cover everything.. I would not be doing this if it wasn’t truly necessary. Any help is so greatly appreciated.
