Structure Fire destroys Mi Taqueria Potosina

As many have heard, on Sunday, August 21, 2022, the historic Holualoa Theater that was built in 1929 was consumed by a horrific fire. We thank God no lives were lost in the fire. Despite what the media outlets have said, my mother-in-Law, Maria Zavala, was in the building when the electrical fire started early that morning. She is the owner of Mi Taqueria Potosina Mexican Food and has been serving the local community of Kona in that building for 16 years. 

The fire did not start in her restaurant space, surprisingly it is the only thing left standing of the Historic Holualoa theater. Sadly, the fire did eventually make its way into her kitchen and caused damage to all her restaurant equipment which no longer can be used. It’s truly devastating because she just remodeled the kitchen less than 3 months ago in May of 2022. Unfortunately, her insurance does not cover the losses that she has suffered for her newly purchased equipment, the cost of renovations made or the future loss of revenue for her & her employees.

Our family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to check up on her and offer help and also

to her loyal customers who have been supporting her throughout the years. In tears, she said this is not goodbye but see you again soon. 

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” 

Lastly, to her guardian angel, the woman who seemed to appear out of nowhere at the post office as she went outside to see where the smoke and fire was coming from, who called 911 to report the fire and also showed her how to use the fire extinguisher. She wants to thank you from the bottom of her heart for being there and helping her.  

Como muchos han escuchado, el domingo 21 de agosto de 2022, el Histórico Teatro de Holualoa que se construyó en 1929 fue consumido por un terrible incendio. Damos gracias a Dios que no se perdieron vidas en el incendio. A pesar de lo que han dicho los medios de comunicación, mi suegra, María Zavala, estaba en el edificio cuando el fuego eléctrico comenzó temprano esa mañana. Ella es la propietaria de Mi Taqueria Potosina Mexican Food y ha estado sirviendo a la comunidad local de Kona en ese edificio durante 16 años.El fuego no se inició en el espacio de su restaurante, sorprendentemente es lo único que quedó en pie del teatro Histórico. Lamentablemente, el fuego finalmente llegó a su cocina y causó daños a todo el equipo de su restaurante que ya no se puede usar. Es verdaderamente devastador porque acaba de remodelar la cocina hace menos de 3 meses en mayo de 2022. Desafortunadamente, su seguro no cubre las pérdidas que ha sufrido por su equipo recién comprado, el costo de las renovaciones realizadas o la futura pérdida de ingresos por ella y sus empleados.Ella tiene una segunda ubicación en Oceanview si desea continuar apoyándola. Entre lágrimas, dijo que “esto no es un adiós, sino un hasta pronto”.Jeremías 29:11 dice: “Porque yo sé los planes que tengo para ti”, declara el Señor, “planes para prosperarte y no para dañarte, planes para darte esperanza y un futuro”.Por último, a su ángel de la guarda, la mujer que apareció de la nada en la oficina de correos cuando salía a ver de dónde venía el humo y el fuego, quien llamó al 911 para denunciar el incendio y también le mostró cómo usar el extintor de incendios. Ella quiere agradecerte desde el fondo de su corazón por estar ahí y ayudarla.
