Stronger Together: Support SLPs with Legal Fees

Hi, my name is Jeanette Benigas. I am a Medical SLP and Professor. Many know that on July 21, 2022, at least 10 speech-language pathologists received cease and desist letters from Theresa Richard related to comments posted in a Facebook thread. Due to the sensitive nature and potentially pending lawsuits that have been threatened, the names of these people are being protected.

Freedom of speech and the right to discuss the products and services available to Medical SLPs on public forums is valuable. No one should feel intimidated or concerned to ask questions or give their opinions and reviews. In my opinion, the legal actions threatened through these cease and desist letters appear to be an attempt to silence our voices. These 10+ SLPs should not have to bear the cost of protecting our autonomy.

I am raising money to assist in covering the cost of their legal expenses. Because each person is in a different state with slightly different letters, they each need their own legal counsel. In some cases, more than one lawyer is required. These expenses include but are not limited to legal retainers and hourly fees for lawyers and any additional costs should legal action be taken by the complainant. It is strongly encouraged that you make your donation anonymous.
