As Hurricane Melissa approaches, Jamaica braces for what meteorologists are calling the strongest storm to threaten the island since Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. With powerful winds, heavy rains, and the potential for catastrophic damage, communities across the island are preparing for impact — but many families simply don’t have the resources to weather what’s coming.
At Mark’s Jamaican Bar & Grill, Jamaica isn’t just a place on the map — it’s home. Our food, our music, and our spirit are all born from the island that shaped us. Many of our team members and customers have deep roots and loved ones in Jamaica, and as we watch this storm draw closer, we know we can’t just sit by and hope for the best — we have to take action.
That’s why we’re launching the Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund before the storm hits — to ensure we can respond quickly and effectively once it passes. Every donation will go toward:
• Supplying food, clean water, and emergency essentials to affected communities
• Supporting local shelters and relief organizations
• Assisting families in rebuilding and recovery efforts after the storm
We’re also organizing local fundraising events at the restaurant, where proceeds will be directed toward relief efforts in Jamaica.
This is about more than preparation — it’s about solidarity. Jamaica has faced storms before, and each time, the strength of the people shines through. Together, we can help make sure they’re not facing this one alone.
Please consider donating, sharing, and standing with us as we support Jamaica through Hurricane Melissa and the recovery that follows.
From all of us at Mark’s Jamaican Bar & Grill — thank you for your generosity, your prayers, and your Caribbean spirit.
