Stronger than Cancer: Help Liza Access Proton Therapy

Donation protected
Our youngest daughter, Liza (Lili, Lilica, Elizaveta) is 3 years old and has just been through a very... unusual year. In October 2024, she was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancer. She has already completed 14 rounds of chemotherapy, 2 surgeries, and countless exams, checkups, and hospital stays. Throughout it all, she has remained her curious, sweet, and playful self.

What’s next
She is responding very well to chemotherapy, and the results so far are encouraging and full of hope. Her doctors are recommending radiation therapy as an essential final step to reduce the risk of the cancer returning and to give her the best possible chance at a cure.

But due to the tumor’s location, between her eye and nose, the conventional radiation carries a high risk of long-term side effects, including damage to her vision, facial development, and nearby healthy structures. That’s what led us to search for a safer alternative.

Proton Therapy
Proton therapy is an advanced and more precise form of radiation treatment. It allows doctors to target the tumor while sparing the healthy tissue around it. Imagine the conventional radio therapy being a flashlight and the proton therapy being a laser beam. For Liza, who is still growing, this precision is critical - it helps minimize long-term damage and gives her a better chance at a healthy future.

But unfortunately, proton therapy is not yet available in Brazil, which is why we are organising care abroad.

Our plan
We have been in contact with many clinics around the globe, and we have settled with Clinica Universidad de Navarra in Madrid, Spain. It’s a major decision, and one that comes with significant costs, including the therapy itself, travel, accommodation, and staying close to the treatment center throughout her recovery.

We are doing everything we can, but we can’t do this alone.

How you can help
If you’re able to donate, any amount will make a real difference.
And if you can’t donate right now, sharing this campaign with your friends, family, workplace, or community means the world to us.
