My father, Dale Payne III, has worked hard since he was the age of five and only recently retired. I can not remember one time he's asked for help (unless it was with rolling out sugar cookie dough for Christmas cookies:) He would probably be upset if he knew I was asking for help on his behalf, but tough luck. Because he needs help. And he deserves it.
Dad survived a massive stroke on June 26th, 2021. It has impacted his ability to speak, walk, eat, and more. He's working hard in rehabilitation right now and we have faith and hope that he will continue to progress and to beat the odds as he's done his whole life.
We are looking into benefits he may receive via his service in the military (gunnery sergeant, Marine Corps, tour of duty in Vietnam), but the costs associated with stroke and stroke recovery are considerable. We plan to bring him home and to do so will require modifications to the house he shares with my mother, including bathroom remodeling, having ramps installed, and widening some doors.
If you're unable to contribute financially, kind words are also appreciated and will be shared with my mother, who will be celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary with my Dad this September.
To read a bit more about my Dad and what he means to me, I've included an essay I wrote about him a few years ago.
