Stroke Recovery Support for our mom Donna Farnham
Donation protected
Our mom, Donna had a few strokes in late April. At first, it seemed as though they were so minor that the damage would be minimal. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
She has lost the ability to use the entire left side of her body. It is difficult for her to speak clearly, as she needs to make an extra effort to enunciate her words. Her eyesight has quickly worsened and her short term memory seems to be affected negatively as well, at times.
Thankfully, Donna has not lost her sense of humor or her love for her family and the Lord. The stroke has made her a "blabbermouth" by her own description...and her nurses and doctors are finding her to be a lovely, funny, "young" lady.
Everyone she meets gets to hear about her family, whether they want to or not. :) Her 5 adult children: Diane, Jeff, Joni, Denise and Jennifer are often the topic of many conversations, as are her 15 grandchildren, 3 grandchildren-in-law, and of course her pride and joy: her first great grandbaby Lucy Jane.
At the age of 83, she was living independently, driving herself around town or to church. It now appears that she will be needing to move into an Assisted Living type of situation. Due to the loss of use of her left side, Donna is required to be helped into a wheelchair for mobility. And she now needs help with the most basic tasks.
The unexpected costs associated with a stroke and the recovery afterwards will begin piling up. She was in the hospital from April 27 - May 3rd. She is currently in an acute Rehab Hospital, spending her 7th night there, with another week or two expected. After that, we're anticipating the need to move her out of her home and into a place where they can take good care of her. (I, Denise, wish I could do it myself, but she will tell you that THE reason she moved to Boise 9 1/2 years ago was to help me take care of my kids, both of whom have autsim. Well, having two children with autism has resulted in my hand being FULL to the brim, so much so that I can't possibly become her caregiver as well.)
She is on a fixed retirement income. So as much as I would prefer to not ask for help financially, we've decided this is the best route. She has hundreds of people praying for her, and so many of them have asked how they can help. So I am putting this fundraiser together as a tangible way for people to assist. We will use the money for Donna's medical bills and any medical/mobility devices that she will need once she's discharged (that aren't covered by insurance), as well as costs associated with moving her out of her home, flying family up to help take care of her during this time of transition as well as any incidentals that arise.
Her main, most urgent request is for prayer. Prayer for her recovery, for her attitude, prayer for courage as she faces an unknown future. If you can donate finacially, please do so. Every little bit helps, truly!
And please help spread the word by sharing this campaign on social media and email. THANK YOU!
