Maximize Stroke Recovery for Mr. Nagel

My father James Nagel suffered a massive stroke on March 24, 2020. After, nine hours of surgery, the doctors said it was likely to be fatal. With so many prayers and God’s will, my dad survived the stroke and is improving every day.
My father lacked the most important therapy in the beginning stages. The left side of his brain was affected, and the right side of his body is paralyzed. My father also has aphasia, a language disorder that affects the ability to communicate and swallow. After several phones calls and follow ups, I was able to schedule a video swallowing test, so that my dad can start eating again. It was successful and he is now swallowing puree foods and no longer through the feeding tube. Even though his speech may be jumbled, fragmented or hard to understand at this time. I still believe there is hope with the right kind of speech, physical, and occupational therapy services that will help my dad advance to the next level.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, there were no rehabilitation centers accepting patients at that time. It was unfortunate that my dad was discharged from the hospital and transferred to a nursing home. A place where short-term patients don’t belong, and the therapy services are not fully executed.
My dad is in desperate need of intense therapy and I am truly asking with all my heart to help me raise money to pay for inpatient acute rehabilitation therapy at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab located in Elk Grove Village, IL. I am doing my best, but limited with resources and money to make this living miracle happen. The insurance company is denying the services and will only pay the nursing home stay. The doctors and nurses are on our side and stated on his paperwork, he truly needs 3-4 weeks of intense therapy to recover to the next level.
The time to recover from a stroke is critical and the sooner he receives the therapy the chances are greater for a maximum recovery. Please consider donating.
