Hello Loved Ones and Friends,
As many of you already know, I suffered a rather debilitating (ischemic) stroke this past Summer, August 5th to be exact. I lost all of my right side and am so thankful to be lefthanded! I spent 2 months in the hospital/rehab and then had to move in with my daughter and two young grandsons, (7 and 6 years old), in Port Orchard, WA as I'm not able to live independently, (for now). It's been difficult as I had to have everything at my old place moved into storage and leave my life in Burien/Seattle behind.
My daughter is a single parent and I'm very blessed that she welcomed me into her home, a ground level three bedroom apartment. I like Port Orchard very much.
I'm doing well but also found out when I had my stroke that I have diabetes 2. Another challenge for me but am pleased to report that I'm controlling it fairly well and take medication for it, (metformin).
The problem I'm presently facing is covering the costs that Medicare doesn't. That's been quite a reality check for me. As of now it's depleted what little money I had saved and all extra funds after bills that I get on my monthly Social Security. I'm 67 years old now!
What I'm in desperate need for is a decent bed/mattress. Right now I'm sleeping on my 6 year old grandson's bed and it causes me so much pain I can't sleep! It's an old bed with little support. My doctor has advised that it's important for my recovery to get something much better. Decent sleep is imperative and quite healing for stroke survivors.
My other need is to be able to get massage therapy - the type designed for stroke patients. I have a lot of nerve pain in my right leg (neuropathy), and it's the only thing that helps effectively. Medicare does not cover any type of massage therapy.
I do go to physical therapy.
Any amount would be a huge help to me and I'm so very grateful you even took the time to read this.
Bless you and thank you so much!
