Ki ora,
My name is Hannah Wafer, a 26-year-old Kiwi who travels the world as a marine biologist, and I'm embarking on a journey to raise awareness and funds for survivors of sexual assault. Having personally faced the impact of sexual assault while working overseas, I am motivated to break the silence surrounding this issue. Throughout the month, I will be attempting to run a minimum of 5 km daily whilst posting statistics surrounding this issue. I hope to get a community of women joining me on my runs (no matter where you are based) and to change the perspective people currently have on this issue, to change the way we speak about it, and to just make people aware on how big of a problem this is. As part of this fundraiser, I will also publicly share my story of what I experienced almost a year ago. This is something I have kept quiet from the majority of my friends and family, and for a few months now, I've wanted to turn such a terrible situation into something positive. The funds raised will support a variety of organizations dedicated to survivors. I will be posting links to organisations throughout the month, and at the end of the month, whatever is raised will be divided equally to various organisations. Join me on my runs and/or join me in making a difference by donating, and help us foster a community where survivors are heard, supported, and empowered. Let's challenge the stigma and create a space for healing and understanding.
Thank you!
If you wish to join me on my runs, all you need to do is tag me in your stories/posts (hannah_kate_wafer - Insta & Hannah Kate Wafer - FB, share the link to this page and use the hashtags #stridesofstrength & #5kmfor5k
If you can’t run then you can change it to walking, going to the gym, doing something to move your body, or even just something as simple as checking in with loved ones and creating a safe space ❤️
