Strength In Unity: Help Melissa Walker Fight Leukemia

My name is Patti Shepard, Melissa Walker I have been friends since our late teens. Through life we've remained "family" being present for the ups and downs (birth of our children, daily life events, laughs & tears and me moving 1400 miles away). Melissa has always been one of the best people in my life! A Christian woman, a single Mommy devoted to her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Always on the go , work, church, family ,PTA remaining active with Girl Scouts even after her daughter became an adult herself. The last year and half have been more than a struggle for Melissa, diagnosed with Leukemia, followed by chemo and radiation then her daughter a 7 out of 10 match able to be a bone marrow donor. A week ago she was transferred back to University of Pennsylvania and I was able to get a quick trip home to see her. A wonderful and heartbreaking trip! Melissa is battling for her life!

I know we're all struggling and honestly made me realize this could be any of us. She lay there still trying to be Mommy to her 15 year old son and Nana to her grandchildren. I know her being at U of Penn is what's needed for her but also creates greater financial challenges. She's remains strong and positive through all of this worrying more about the burden she's put on others during this time. Exhausted FMLA, lost her job of 20 + years, paying COBRA to keep health insurance along while paying her monthly bills. Any assistance you can give would greatly help and be appreciated.
