Hello, my name is Susan Giordano, and Gary Giordano we truly appreciate you taking a moment to read our story. Our family has been blindsided by the sudden illness. On July 17th, Anthony Helmick, age 26, went into the ER for a high fever, to find out he was diagnosed with an aggressive acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and has a high-risk disease. He was 10 pints of blood low and was then admitted to VCU in Richmond for 2 months. He is facing the battles of strong chemotherapy, lung infections, blood clots, and now the news of the removal of all his teeth. Anthony’s immune system has been compromised and will stay that way until they can find a donor for a bone marrow transplant. He is not allowed to work.

We are trying to raise $50,000.00 plus to help cover the astronomical medical bills, transportation to and from VCU, meals, and the doorway lodging. Once they find a donor, he will be spending 3 to 4 months in the hospital. Then he will have anywhere from 4 to 8 months stay at the doorways next to VCU while he is recovering. Every dollar helps ease the burden and lets Anthony focus on healing.
