Strength in community: Support for Gus Cameron

“It’s Cancer” the words no-one ever wants to hear, though in some way we all have. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or yourself, the feelings of hearing those words are the same: Heart stopping, fear, denial, hope, and worry to name a few. In March of 2022 at the age of 52, the last thing Gus thought he would be hearing are the words “stage 3 colorectal cancer”. Facing this unimaginable battle, with his wife Sonya and children Kaitlyn and Kyle by his side he underwent surgery in May of that same year, followed by 6 months of chemotherapy.
All appeared to be going well, until July 2023 when he received more bad news. The cancer had returned, this time to his liver. With hope and determination Gus began chemo again with the plan to shrink the tumors until they were operable. Unfortunately, surgery was cancelled after tests showed the chemo wasn’t working.
Since then, Gus has been undergoing continuous rounds of chemo, but unfortunately recent scans showed tumors in multiple organs.
Let me tell you abut my brother-in-law Gus. He is a 54-year-old huge goofball, selfless father and husband, one of the funniest and best people I know, and a fighter. He’s worked hard his entire life to provide for his family. He always has a listening ear, a helping hand, and a funny story, yet is the last person who will ask for help. As he continues this challenging journey he needs our support more than ever.
In addition to the emotional toil cancer brings, there are overwhelming costs and challenges that come with being sick and not being able to work unexpectedly. Until now they have been managing as best they can, but no-one should have to worry about how you will get by when you’re fighting for your life. I’m humbly asking for your support to ease the financial burden they are facing, and in turn allow Gus to focus on what matters most right now, spending time with his family.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will be very much appreciated and will go directly to Gus to help alleviate some of this pressure.
With gratitude,
