On December 21, my brother, James Baker nearly lost his life in a devastating motorcycle accident. He was life-flighted to Houston with critical injuries—and against all odds, he survived. But survival came at an unimaginable cost.
James suffered multiple facial fractures, a skull fracture, multiple brain bleeds, fractured vertebrae in his neck, fractured ribs, fractured left hand that required plates, screws, and pins, and a broken right upper arm with a severed brachial artery which led to extensive muscle and nerve damage. His team of doctors were forced to amputate his right arm just below the shoulder to save his life.
James now faces a long and painful road to recovery that includes additional surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, and learning to live without his arm. In time, he will need a prosthetic—one that will allow him to return to the active, outdoor life he loves with his wife, Meagan, and their two children, Matt and Addilyn.
The financial burden is overwhelming. Medical bills, travel and lodging expenses, and everyday household costs continue to grow. James is unable to work, and Meagan cannot carry this weight alone. She wants to be by James’s side during his inpatient rehabilitation to encourage and support him through this difficult season, but doing so means taking unpaid FMLA leave and losing her income during that time.
We believe God spared James for a reason. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). We trust He will continue to guide James through this difficult journey.
Every donation, prayer, and share helps lift this family during their darkest days. Thank you for being part of James’s recovery and hope.
