Inspired by the take-back-the-night movement and the #yesallwomen campaign, The Street Talk Project is a public art project and exhibition which primarily addresses two things: how female and trans people navigate the city of Toronto, and the socialized sexism that governs people on a day-to-day basis.
Street harassment and sexual violence are real concerns for women and trans persons inhabiting public spaces in Toronto. Using humour and subversive advertising, The Street Talk Project will bring attention to the ways in which public space is navigated differently by different poeple; address how sexism is felt viscerally on a day-to-day basis; promote solidarity for the safety of women and trans people; and further the belief that we are all responsible for making public spaces accessible and welcoming for all people.
