Hello guys, I need your help. My name is Felicia Chen. I identify myself as a first-generation low-income student studying nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. As an FGLI student, I have to endure and overcome numerous setbacks in comparison to my peers who have far more resources to engage in the competitive academic atmosphere. While my peers’ parents provide academic and career resources to their kids, my parents work in the heat-permeated kitchen until 1 AM in the morning serving Chinese food in order to put their three children through school. I must admit having had envied my peers for having such privileged upbringings.
Yet, I’ve realized that my perspective went astray. With the opportunity to work with Friends For Street Children (FFSC), a local non-profit organization that works to support thousands of underprivileged children throughout Ho Chi Minh City, I’ve learned that many impoverished parents would rather have their kids work by collecting plastics, selling lottery tickets, or performing chores on the farms to provide for the family. Most upsettingly, some parents simply do not see the value in education. For those parents that do see the value in their children’s education, they simply cannot afford the basic school supplies.
This was a wake-up call for me. Because above all else I have parents who believe in the power of education and have the ability to provide the basic necessities for me and my siblings to go to school without having to worry about supporting the family.
It is the unbearable sad truth that there are still so many parents, especially in Vietnam, who simply cannot support their children’s dreams for a better future. But these children deserve better. They deserve the basic human right to education like each one of us reading this article right now.
As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world,”
“For many of these kids, their dream is to simply wear a uniform someday.” - an FFSC teacher
Imagine that we could have easily been one of these kids: born to a family of poverty, living under leaves and on ramshackle boats, selling lottery tickets to make a living. Yet, fate has led us to live fortunate lives in which we do not have to face these adversities. I believe we all carry a responsibility to lift up those in need. Adversity is not one person’s problem, but our problem.
So please join me on the efforts to provide Street Children with the basic needs to go to school!
How Funds Will be Distributed
Funding will be used specifically to purchase uniforms, stationery, and textbooks for 300 students in Binh Trieu Primary Education Center and building rent for 10 months for Binh Tho Center.
300 sets of uniform and stationary = 3000 USD
50 textbooks* = 300 USD
Binh Tho Rent = 2,200 USD
*A generous donor has already offered to contribute 250 textbooks for the children, so now we would just need funds for 50 more textbooks!

これが、私が目を覚ますきっかけでした。何故なら、私には何よりも教育の力を信じる両親がいて、最低限の学用品を与えてくれ、私や兄弟たちは家族を養うこと心配せずに学校に通うことが出来るのです。
ベトナムでは、未だに多くの親が単純に、子供たちが望む将来への夢をサポートできない状況です。これは本当に耐え難く悲しい事実です。子供たちにはもっと良い環境が与えられて良いはずです。今この記事を読んでいる私たち一人一人と同じく、彼らも教育を受ける為の最低限の権利があるのです。

曼德拉的话语比以往的任何时候，更让我产生共鸣。今年夏天我很荣幸能有这样的机会前往越南去见证，体验和感受这个发展国家的动态。这宝贵的机会，涌起了我的义务感。在这两个月的时间里，我下定决心用我应有的所能来帮助那些不如我幸运的孩子们。
我的名字是陈斐璇 （Felicia Chen）。我正在宾夕法尼亚大学读护士专业。身为第一代，低收入的学生，我需要与那些有更多资源参与竞争学术的同龄人竞争。在这之中，我必须学会忍受并克服许多挫折。当我同学们的父母为他们的孩子提供学术和职业资源时，我的父母在热透过的厨房里工作到凌晨1点为客人提供中餐。以便让他们的三个孩子上学。所以在许多学术环境中，我只能依赖于自己。 因此，我常羡慕别人家的特权。

一名FFSC老师说过， “对于这些孩子中的许多人来说，他们的梦想就是有一天穿上制服。”

Salut à tous! J'ai besoin de votre aide. Je me présente, je m'appelle Félicia Chen, je suis étudiante à l'université de Pennsylvanie. Cependant, quelque chose me distingue des autres étudiants. En effet, j'ai pour habitude de dire que je suis une "étudiante de première génération à faible revenu". Contrairement à la majorité des étudiants qui m'entourent, mes parents ne bénéficient pas de revenus confortables pour m'aider dans le financement de mon parcours universitaire. Ces derniers travaillent dans la chaleur des cuisines d'un restaurant chinois tous les jours jusqu'à tard dans la nuit. Alors, je dois admettre qu'il m'est arrivé d'envier mes pairs.
Cependant, en travaillant aux côtés de l'association Friends For Street Children (FFSC), j'ai réalisé que ma situation n'était pas à plaindre. En effet, j'ai compris qu'il existe des endroits où les enfants sont forcés de travailler au milieu des déchets brûlants de décharges, dans les champs de culture ou chez des particuliers pour contribuer aux finances de leurs parents, les privant ainsi d'une éducation. L'éducation possède une certaine valeur, cependant, elle est inaccessible à ces enfants puisque les parents ne possèdent pas les moyens nécessaires pour offrir les fournitures de bases à leurs enfants pour qu'ils puissent aller à l'école. Ainsi, l'association "Friends For Street Children" aide à la scolarisation des enfants des rues de Saïgon en leur fournissant les moyens nécessaire pour être scolarisé.
Cela fut un choc pour moi, puisque j'ai réalisé que je n'ai jamais eu à mettre en péril mon éducation pour subvenir aux besoins économiques de ma famille.
Au Vietnam, et dans bien d'autre pays aussi, il existe une réalité économique qui prive les enfants de leurs plus grands rêves puisque par manque de moyens, ils ne peuvent avoir un accès à l'éducation, alors même que cette instruction pourrait aider la situation des parents. Ces enfants doivent pouvoir bénéficient de ce droit fondamental qu'est l'éducation. Ce droit que vous avez surement dû bénéficier sans vous soucier de son accès.
"L'éducation modifie, elle corrige. L'éducation améliore les bons, elle fortifie les faibles" c'est avec ces mots d'Alexandre Dumas que l'on comprend l'importance de l'éducation dans la vie d'un enfant pour qu'il puisse corriger sa situation économique et sociale. Un professeur membre de l'association a pour habitude de dire que "pour la plupart de ces enfants, le plus grand rêve serait de porter un uniforme".
Imaginez que chacun aurait pu être perdant au grand loto de l'univers, en naissant dans une famille ne pouvant pas garantir cet accès à l'éducation. Je pense que l'on ne peut se reposer sur ses acquis et son confort sans aider ses pairs qui ne bénéficient pas de la même situation que nous jouissons. La pauvreté économique et sociale ne doit pas être une fatalité pour ces enfants.
Si vous le pouvez, s'il vous plaît, joignez le travail effectué par "Friends For Street Children" pour contribuer à la scolarisation des enfants des rues.
Comment les donations seront distribuées?
Les fonds serviront spécifiquement à l'achat d'uniformes, d'articles de papeterie et de manuels scolaires pour 300 élèves du centre d'enseignement primaire Binh Trieu et à la location d'un bâtiment pour 10 mois pour le centre Binh Tho. 街头儿童也值得拥有上学的机会

纳尔逊曼德拉曾说过，“教育是我们用来改变世界最有力的武器。”
曼德拉的话语比以往的任何时候，更让我产生共鸣。今年夏天我很荣幸能有这样的机会前往越南去见证，体验和感受这个发展国家的动态。这宝贵的机会，涌起了我的义务感。在这两个月的时间里，我下定决心用我应有的所能来帮助那些不如我幸运的孩子们。
我的名字是陈斐璇 （Felicia Chen）。我正在宾夕法尼亚大学读护士专业。身为第一代，低收入的学生，我需要与那些有更多资源参与竞争学术的同龄人竞争。在这之中，我必须学会忍受并克服许多挫折。当我同学们的父母为他们的孩子提供学术和职业资源时，我的父母在热透过的厨房里工作到凌晨1点为客人提供中餐。以便让他们的三个孩子上学。所以在许多学术环境中，我只能依赖于自己。 因此，我常羡慕别人家的特权。
然而，这次的实习让我意识到了我错误的观点。在跟随着我合作的越南当地非营利组织，Friends For Street Children（FFSC），一个组织致力于支持整个胡志明市的数千名贫困儿童，我了解到许多贫困的父母需要让他们的孩子通过收集工作塑料，销售彩票，或在农场做家务以供支撑家庭的生活。最令人想不到的是，有些父母根本没有看到教育的价值。但却对于那些知道教育价值的父母们来说，他们根本买不起孩子的基本学习用品。
从此，我领悟到了教育的重要性也很感激我父母的付出，并有能力为我的弟弟妹妹提供一些基本的必需品。但令人难以置信的事实是，仍然有那么多的父母，特别是在越南，根本无法支持孩子的美好梦想。每一位孩子都值得拥有更好的未来。他们应该享有基本的人权教育，就像我们每一个人现在阅读这篇文章一样。
一名FFSC老师说过， “对于这些孩子中的许多人来说，他们的梦想就是有一天穿上制服。”
想象一下，如果我们是这些孩子中的一个：生于贫困家庭，生活在树叶盖的房子下和摇摇欲坠的船上，出售彩票以谋生。然而，命运可以使我们过上幸福的生活，我们不必面对这些逆境。但我相信我们都有责任帮助有需要的人。逆境不是一个人的问题，而是我们的问题。

Trẻ Em Đường Phố Sài Gòn Xứng Đáng Được Đi Học
Vào năm 2017, một nhóm bạn trẻ tình nguyện viên của FFSC đã đặt ra một nhiệm vụ táo bạo khi quyết tâm gây quỹ cho hơn 600 Trẻ Em Đường Phố của FFSC nhằm cung cấp sách vở, đồng phục và dụng cụ học tập thiết yếu để các em tiếp tục tham gia chương trình học bậc tiểu học vào năm học mới. Được thúc đẩy bởi niềm tin vững chắc rằng mỗi đứa trẻ đều có quyền được đến trường, các bạn tình nguyện viên đã làm việc miệt mài để kêu gọi thành công gần $10,000 chỉ trong thời gian 3 tuần thực hiện.

Salut à tous! J'ai besoin de votre aide. Je me présente, je m'appelle Félicia Chen, je suis étudiante à l'université de Pennsylvanie. Cependant, quelque chose me distingue des autres étudiants. En effet, j'ai pour habitude de dire que je suis une "étudiante de première génération à faible revenu". Contrairement à la majorité des étudiants qui m'entourent, mes parents ne bénéficient pas de revenus confortables pour m'aider dans le financement de mon parcours universitaire. Ces derniers travaillent dans la chaleur des cuisines d'un restaurant chinois tous les jours jusqu'à tard dans la nuit. Alors, je dois admettre qu'il m'est arrivé d'envier mes pairs.
Cependant, en travaillant aux côtés de l'association Friends For Street Children (FFSC), j'ai réalisé que ma situation n'était pas à plaindre. En effet, j'ai compris qu'il existe des endroits où les enfants sont forcés de travailler au milieu des déchets brûlants de décharges, dans les champs de culture ou chez des particuliers pour contribuer aux finances de leurs parents, les privant ainsi d'une éducation. L'éducation possède une certaine valeur, cependant, elle est inaccessible à ces enfants puisque les parents ne possèdent pas les moyens nécessaires pour offrir les fournitures de bases à leurs enfants pour qu'ils puissent aller à l'école. Ainsi, l'association "Friends For Street Children" aide à la scolarisation des enfants des rues de Saïgon en leur fournissant les moyens nécessaire pour être scolarisé.
Cela fut un choc pour moi, puisque j'ai réalisé que je n'ai jamais eu à mettre en péril mon éducation pour subvenir aux besoins économiques de ma famille.
Au Vietnam, et dans bien d'autre pays aussi, il existe une réalité économique qui prive les enfants de leurs plus grands rêves puisque par manque de moyens, ils ne peuvent avoir un accès à l'éducation, alors même que cette instruction pourrait aider la situation des parents. Ces enfants doivent pouvoir bénéficient de ce droit fondamental qu'est l'éducation. Ce droit que vous avez surement dû bénéficier sans vous soucier de son accès.
"L'éducation modifie, elle corrige. L'éducation améliore les bons, elle fortifie les faibles" c'est avec ces mots d'Alexandre Dumas que l'on comprend l'importance de l'éducation dans la vie d'un enfant pour qu'il puisse corriger sa situation économique et sociale. Un professeur membre de l'association a pour habitude de dire que "pour la plupart de ces enfants, le plus grand rêve serait de porter un uniforme".
Imaginez que chacun aurait pu être perdant au grand loto de l'univers, en naissant dans une famille ne pouvant pas garantir cet accès à l'éducation. Je pense que l'on ne peut se reposer sur ses acquis et son confort sans aider ses pairs qui ne bénéficient pas de la même situation que nous jouissons. La pauvreté économique et sociale ne doit pas être une fatalité pour ces enfants.
Si vous le pouvez, s'il vous plaît, joignez le travail effectué par "Friends For Street Children" pour contribuer à la scolarisation des enfants des rues.
Comment les donations seront distribuées?
Les fonds serviront spécifiquement à l'achat d'uniformes, d'articles de papeterie et de manuels scolaires pour 300 élèves du centre d'enseignement primaire Binh Trieu et à la location d'un bâtiment pour 10 mois pour le centre Binh Tho. Pour vous donner un ordre d'idée, pour obtenir 300 uniformes scolaires, il est nécessaire de recueillir 3 000 $ (approximativement 2 600€), pour acheter 50 manuels, l'association doit disposer de 300 $ (soit 260 €). Cependant, un donateur généreux a déjà permis de financer l'achat de 250 manuels, dès lors les dons sont concentrés sur les uniformes ainsi que le loyer du local de Binh Tho.
Chaque tranche de 10€ permet à un enfant de retourner à l'école.
Pour participer à ce projet:
1: Faites un don: chaque don aidera les enfants à accéder à l’enseignement primaire. Vous pouvez faire une énorme différence pour l'avenir d'un enfant en l'aidant avec un ensemble de manuels, d'uniformes et d'articles de papeterie lui permettant d'aller à l'école à Saïgon!
