Hi, I'm Cath! I have spent the majority of 2024 in Morocco specifically the Agadir region and have witnessed the issues with the stray dogs and cats. There are only a few associations that are working towards vaccinating and neutering the animals and are solely based on donations. Since 2019 Morocco has been receiving funding from the WHO to ease the situation but this funding has not been distributed to local communities.
The situation with the dogs in the areas has become more urgent due to AFCON being hosted in the country in summer 2025 and the authorities plan to eliminate any dogs that aren't tagged (they have an ear tag once they have been vaccinated). Dogs are being killed daily and there's just not enough attention or help in the area.
The aim for multiple charities and associations within the region is to capture, neuter and vaccinate and let them lead a healthy and safe life but this is still such an up struggle.
Since March I have been feeding and watering multiple dogs daily which I will continue to do but with any funding I'm able to raise I will use towards vaccinating as many dogs to ensure they are safe from the authorities. The dogs show such resilience with all of the heartbreak and daily struggles they have endured.
I have set up an Instagram account at @TamraghtTails to highlight the ongoing issues the dogs face and how the funding will be used.
I've listed the prices below for food, vax and neutering:
Vaccinations + ear tag - £25
Neutering - £80
1.4 KG of wet dog food - £2.10
1KG of dry biscuits - £1.20
1KG of rice - £1.35
Thank you so much for reading the story of the dogs in Tamraght. Any donations or shares to help the dogs will be so appreciated. I will be working alongside Renata's Association in Tamraght who has tirelessly helped the dogs in the region for years.
