Olga’s Recovery Journey: A New Chapter Begins

What began as a desperate call for help has become a story of resilience, answered prayers, and unwavering love.

Just a few short weeks ago, Olga was hospitalized overseas in Greece after a sudden and severe onset of symptoms from a neuromuscular condition called myasthenia gravis. She was far from home, weak, vulnerable, and unable to travel without intensive care.

Because of YOU — your prayers, donations, shares, and powerful intentions — Olga made it home.

Your support paid for hospital care, specialized medications, airport escort services, flight arrangements, essential home medical equipment, and more. Every dollar and every act of kindness helped make the impossible… possible.

Today, we begin a new chapter.

Olga is now back in Florida and beginning her long road to recovery. With the help of her wife Carmen (who has been her tireless caregiver, advocate, and spiritual anchor), she’s slowly regaining strength.

Her days are still very limited. She’s up to about three hours of activity before needing to rest. But her voice is stronger. Her spirit is lighter. And she’s surrounded by a growing circle of medical support.

✅ A primary care plan is in motion
✅ Physical therapy at home has been approved
✅ Cardiology and neurology appointments are scheduled
✅ Disability paperwork is underway
✅ Small wins — like showering with support — are celebrated as miracles

Carmen returns to work this week, cooking meals in advance and making sure everything is in place so Olga can safely continue healing at home. Kind neighbors have stepped in, community members are sending Reiki, and donations have helped create a stable bridge between crisis and care.

But the journey is far from over.

Olga’s full recovery will take time, energy, and continued resources. The timeline for returning to work is unknown. Several rounds of testing, evaluations, and therapy are still ahead.

Every. Gesture. Matters.

To everyone who has walked this road with us — thank you.

We are here because of YOU.

With all our hearts,

Melissa, Olga & Carmen

Stranded in Greece: Olga's Medical Crisis

What Happened

What started as a long-awaited dream cruise — a celebration of love and life for a couple who rarely takes time for themselves — turned into a medical nightmare just one day into the trip.

Olga, a warm, deeply spiritual, and kind-hearted woman, suddenly began experiencing neurological symptoms while on the ship. Her speech slurred. Her eyelid drooped. She became unsteady, fatigued, and unable to swallow food. They were forced to disembark immediately, and the cruise line handed all their belongings over to her wife, Carmen — just like that, their long-planned dream trip was over.

They are now stranded on the island of Rhodes, Greece — far from home, far from their support systems, and without travel insurance. Olga is hospitalized, too unstable to fly home, while doctors search for a diagnosis. Her symptoms — muscle weakness, slurred speech, inability to fully open her eyes, and difficulty swallowing — point to a serious neurological issue. But because of her condition, she hasn’t been able to complete key tests, including a CT scan and spinal tap. They are watching and waiting, doing what they can with limited resources.

Meanwhile, Carmen is alone — navigating a foreign system with no translator, no place to stay near the hospital, and no support beyond what little they had saved for the trip. She’s had to pay out of pocket for everything — not just hotel stays and food, but medical wipes and personal supplies that U.S. hospitals typically provide for free. While Olga is now on a neurology floor where Carmen isn’t allowed to stay, Carmen has had to find safe places to sleep, buy basic supplies, and advocate for her wife with grace and strength — even through heartbreak and exhaustion.

Who This Is For

Let me tell you what I know: Olga and Carmen are not just good people. They’re extraordinary ones.

They are a loving married couple and deeply committed to one another, who walk through the world with humility, warmth, and spiritual generosity. Olga and Carmen are part of me and my wife's inner circle. They're the kind of people we choose to keep close. The kind who open their home, their heart, and their hands to serve and love others.

We’ve shared meals, birthdays, sleepovers, and soulful connection. We share values. We laugh deeply. We hold space for each other’s grief and growth. They are the kind of people who make the world better just by being in it.

I offered to run this fundraiser because I saw how much they were struggling, and I knew they’d never ask for help themselves. They’ve done so much good in the world — quietly, humbly — and right now, they need to receive.

Why We’re Raising Funds

We are raising $50,000 to support them through this emergency and whatever comes next, including:

  • Out-of-pocket housing, food, and transportation while Olga remains hospitalized

  • Medical expenses related to supplies, diagnostics, and specialist care

  • Emergency medical evacuation (medevac) if Olga cannot fly home commercially

  • Ongoing care and recovery support once they are safely home

Why This Matters

No one should face a medical crisis like this alone — much less in a foreign country with no insurance, no translator, and no certainty.

Whether Olga continues to stabilize and can fly home in a few weeks, or whether she needs full medical evacuation, one thing is clear: the cost is already overwhelming, and the journey home is far from over.

They need support — not just financially, but spiritually, emotionally, and energetically.

How You Can Help

  • Donate whatever amount you can — every dollar truly helps
  • Share this page widely with friends, family, and your community
  • Pray, visualize, or send healing — whatever way you send love

Please hold Olga in your heart. See her coming home strong. See her healed. See Carmen relieved and reunited. That kind of support is real too.

From the deepest part of my heart, thank you for standing with them — and with me.

—Melissa

Please note: Because GoFundMe does not currently operate in Greece, I will be receiving the donations personally and transferring them 100% directly to Olga and Carmen via Zelle. I’ll post updates and receipts as needed to keep everything fully transparent.
