ERIN'S ROAD TO RECOVERY
Donation protected
On July 5th Erin was involved in a horrific car accident. By the grace of God & those in Heaven looking down on her, she survived the wreck. She was removed from her vehicle by the Jaws of Life. From there, she was rushed to the trauma center. While still in shock, she was able to recall the accident but felt an evident numbness in her hands and feet. After two days of medical inquiries and testing it was determined that a spinal fusion surgery was needed. From the hospital, she was sent to a spinal injury rehabilitation center. Erin has begun her various physical and occupational therapies and has started the long and arduous process of recovery.
Our family goal is to support her recovery & maximize and nurture her independence.
A little bit about Erin
During Erin’s 25 years on this Earth, she has served those around her willingly and regularly. Erin is the youngest of a blended family of five. Erin has never let her dwarfism stop her from doing anything and is an active volunteer in the organization Little People of America. She has participated in panel discussions at elementary school to educate others on overcoming struggles that can come with achondroplasia as well as being available for parents and families that may need help in advocating for their Little Person children.
Erin’s work ethic has always been admirable. She has loved her job at Whole Foods as well as her colleagues with whom she has worked. Erin’s favorite job by far is being an Aunt to her 5 nephews & niece.
During this whole ordeal, Erin has never lost her spirit or sense of humor which has helped us all stay strong. She is working hard in her therapies to maximize all that she can get back, while befriending every nurse and doctor that she has come across.
The Purpose of the GoFundMe
Erin will be coming home in a few short weeks & while we are feeling grateful- there are costly home modifications that need to be completed prior to her arrival.
Many have asked how they can help. We have started a GoFundMe for loved ones to have a direct hand in helping Erin & the Mackintosh Family. The money received will be used to make the ADA modifications that are needed, purchase specialized equipment to make daily life easier for her, as well as help the family obtain a vehicle that can be used to transport her safely to and from therapies when she returns home.
Erin & the Mackintosh family are very humbled by all of the prayers & support that has been given during this tragic time. Your generosity has been instrumental in her recovery thus far.
In Conclusion...
A quote that has helped our family thru this tough time…
“When Dana whispered those life-saving words to me, ‘you’re still you. And I love you,’ it meant more to me than just a personal declaration of faith and commitment. In a sense it was an affirmation that marriage and family stood at the center of everything, and if both were intact, so was your universe.”
