On September 9, 2023 tragedy struck the life of a 26 year old nursing student. Ciara is a kind and selfless woman who recently got married. On this day, Ciara and her husband Jacob took her 10 year old brother to the park. A night that was full of laughs and memories. While merging onto the freeway they were hit in the rear. This small fender bender caused them to pull off into the shoulder of the freeway to exchange information. While on the side of the freeway, an impaired driver smashed into them going 65 MPH. After the accident, paramedics found Ciara 20 feet from the crash site. Four people were hit by the driver, and they were all transported to the trauma center. This includes Ciara and Jacob. Jacob suffered from multiple scrapes, bruises and a back injury. Ciara was the only one out of the four not discharged from the hospital the same night of the accident. Instead she was in critical condition in the Trauma ICU. Her injuries include a brain bleed, punctured lung, partially torn ACL, strained ligaments in her leg, multiple facial fractures and bruising all over the body. Ciara had to have immediate surgery to reconstruct her face. This left her with four metal plates in her cheeks to repair her shattered bones, metal plates bolted to her jaw, and a jaw wired shut to repair her broken palate. She will later need corrective surgery to help repair her septum, which was broken in three different places. The road to recovery is long, but Ciara's strength and determination inspires her family to keep pushing forward. Her family is seeking help to make this tragedy a little bit easier. While recovering, Ciara and Jacob will be out of work and will need help covering their medical expenses. Together, we can be the light at the end of the tunnel for Ciara and Jacob.
