Hi all,
My great friends, Rob Lee (my class mate from first grade through San Rafael High School) and Sue Fair, are back at Lokoya on Mt Veder near Napa, in the new cabin that they built to replace their home that was destroyed in the 2017 Napa fire.
Over these last 3 years they have worked TO THE EXTREME to deal with the aftermath of the fire and build a new place.
They had to: clear the land of ash and debris, find building sites, purchase a cabin kit, provide plans to the County, hire various engineers and contractors, etc., etc., etc. They made thousands of phone calls.
In the midst of it Rob, who is in a wheelchair, had a heart attack and infection and spent months in a hospital and recovery facilities. Contractors flaked out on them. Money they thought was available to use to rebuild Lokoya was diverted.
They are home, but their home isn't finished. There are still tools taking up all the space in their living room. They have only a bit of temporary furniture. Sue, who has done a huge amount of physical labor and dealt with hundreds of issues related to their disaster, is installing the floor as I write this.
There are dozens of small things they will need and at least one big one - a stove. I set up this Go Fund Me for their stove, but would love to see the funding go as far beyond that as possible.
Tomorrow we are having our San Rafael High School class of 1970 Zoom Reunion. I hope to spread the work and get this message in front of as many San Rafaelites as possible, so that any who want to help will chip in. All others, my friends, friends of Rob and Sue, are also encouraged to help.
The photo is of Sue and Rob (and me behind the guitar on the left) when we played music together at a San Anselmo restaurant. We all grew up in Marin so we call ourselves Mount Tamalpais Folk.
If you don't know Rob, he has held a fantastic annual Fall barbecue party at Lokoya for years. He has created amazing art, taught art, built gorgeous musical instruments and played great guitar and bass for many years. Sue has an angelic singing voice.
I can't tell you how grateful Rob and Sue will be for any donations to this fund. And, of course, I will appreciate you helping them too. I've watched them work and struggle through this, and know that they deserve a boost.
