Story's Fight

Story Engstrom. A 22 year old girl who should be living life to its fullest. Making memories with friends, traveling, deciding what her future has in store for her.

 

Instead, Story is fighting a battle that was inconceivable to her and her family just a short time ago. Her body has been ravaged by a combination of symptoms that have left her nearly incapable of caring for herself and tending to the every day things that we often take for granted.

 

She has lost the ability to walk. She can no longer write or even hold objects in her hands. Remember, she is just 22 years old.

 

This young lady loves her fur babies, even those that aren't hers. She builds warming stations for stray cats in the winter. She loves floating down rivers or being out on a lake. She loves the kiddos in her neighborhood and buys them gifts for birthdays and holidays. She loves to crochet. Now, all of these things have been ripped away from her with no rhyme, reason, or warning.

 

She has been treating with skilled physicians at Barnes Jewish, who have given preliminary diagnoses of sensory ataxic neuropathy/sensory ganglionopathy and immune myopathy. The nerve damage she has sustained is severe and they are uncertain if she will regain control of her body. Again, she is 22.

 

Her parents, Chris and Tiffany, are doing everything they can to help their little girl, but times are tough and the economic impact seems insurmountable.

 

Please help them help her. She is in danger of losing her home. They are in the process of helping her pursue disability, but that is a long, convoluted path with numerous administrative hoops to jump through.
