Kevin Storrs & Family Fund

During the spring, Kevin noticed some changes in how he was feeling, including some abdominal discomfort. In May, he stepped on the scale and saw a number he had not seen in years. With the loss of weight, Kevin became more attune to how he was feeling. Fast forward a couple weeks, and on June 2, Kevin found himself in the Northern Dutchess Hospital Emergency Room. A CT scan and a few hours later, he received the jarring news - a mass on his pancreas.

The next day, Kevin and Deb were at Vassar Hospital, meeting with a pancreatic surgeon. Unfortunately, Kevin was not a candidate for surgery, as the mass was around the main pancreatic vein.

On June 8, Kevin and Deb were at Sloan Kettering in NYC for a consultation, and they were back there for a biopsy the following week. On June 22, they received the diagnosis they had been dreading - stage 3 adenocarcinoma of the pancreas, and it is the most aggressive kind. They also were told the cancer was around the main pancreatic artery, in addition to the vein.

Kevin had his chemo port implanted on June 30, and on July 2, he will begin a rigorous treatment regimen, beginning with aggressive chemo rounds every two weeks, all of which will be administered at Sloan Kettering in Westchester. The goal is to shrink the cancer enough to enable surgery to remove the tumor.

Kevin always has taken such good care of his body, and we all know he is mentally strong; he will need to draw on his physical and mental toughness for this battle. Of course, Deb and Kenzie will be with him every step of the way. Kevin does plan to continue coaching and pool directing as much as he is able.

Kevin, Deb, and Kenzie very much appreciate the support, concern, and love they have received from the community, in particular, the vast and extended swimming community, which Kevin has been a part of, served, and led for decades. Fortunately, Deb has closed out the current school year and will be home and available throughout the summer. Her ability to return to work full-time in the fall will be dependent on Kevin's health.

Many people have asked how they can help. Along with continued reach out, love, and positive thoughts, financial support is the best way to help the Storrs family right now. The expenses of the regular trips and appointments and the unknowns surrounding Deb's work this fall are stressors. Several people have asked about setting-up a meal train; unfortunately, this is challenging and impractical, due to multiple dietary restrictions in the family.

I ask you to consider a small donation at this very difficult time. Your kindness and generosity are appreciated.

Thanks you.
