Storm Eowyn destroys family home
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Mairéad and I am reaching out for support on behalf of my sister and her family whose home has suffered devasting damage after Storm Eowyn. My sister Aisling Coyne and her fiancée Pat Hughes are both local to the area and highly invested in their community with Aisling working part time in the local school and Pat working as a Guard in a nearby town. They both worked so hard to secure a home for themselves, their three beautiful girls and three little dogs only last year after living with family for over four years to save for it. .
Their home suffered significant damage during the storm with the roof been completely blown off. Although every effort was made by family, friends and members of the community to make the property water tight, further damage was done inside after the torrential rain following Storm Eowyn causing leaks into the electrics and damage to the ceilings, walls and some furniture. Furthermore, it was noticed only today that their oil tank was also damaged during the storm causing a loss of hundreds of euro worth of oil and further repairs will be needed to repair the tank.
They have been advised by a contractor to not only repair the damage to the roof but to storm proof it to prevent an incident like this happening again in the future. The roof repair with added storm protection unfortunately is a more costly plan but necessary as the whole family have lost confidence in the security of their home and know that they would worry each time there was strong winds if they would loose the roof again.
They are fortunate that they have been able to move in with family but it can only be temporary as the property is a B&B and they will need to move out before the tourist season starts again. They therefore have very little time to save the necessary funds for the roof, electrical, structural and furniture repairs. They explored every avenue they could over the last few days before realising there was no way they could raise the funds themselves and have agreed to a gofundme page. They are very conscious of the fact that so many people will have their own financial worries of storm repairs themselves in addition to the cost of living been so high. However, should you be able to donate anything at all to help them repair their home and get their little girls back in their own beds surrounded by their toys they would be so greatful. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
