Storm Damage – Equuvation at Rocky Creek Ranch
On Saturday, August 14th, 2021, a microburst storm with the strength of an EF-1 tornado hit our farm. All of our animals and people are safe, but our organization has experienced widespread damage and material loss.
Our large hay barn was hit directly, with debris being carried over 1/4 mile across the property.
Our entire winter hay supply has been ruined due to debris and several inches of rain that came with the storm.
Due to the challenges with hay production, extreme weather and current high costs (fuel, hay, labor) across the country this year, we had stockpiled hay ahead of time, and it will likely be more expensive to replace than originally purchased for. This is our most impactful loss from this storm.
In addition, five pastures were damaged, and many large trees are down. Our supply of building materials and fencing is under the debris of the barn, or scattered throughout the property. Hay equipment, trailers and other items have also been damaged. We will not know the full extent until we begin clean-up.
In an effort to restore the farm to be safe and peaceful for our clients and animals, all of our programs, events and services will be cancelled until after Labor Day.
We are so grateful for everyone's support as we first work to rebuild our hay supply for our beloved therapy animals; and plan for clean-up and replacement of other items/buildings down the road.
