STOP THE STENCH
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Neighbours:
The community needs your support.
As you are aware, we recently suffered a terrible summer with strong and repulsive odours being discharged from the GFL landfill on Upper Centennial Parkway (Stoney Creek). This nauseas stench began in April 2023 when GFL started to expand the landfill. The odours became unbearable during the summer months.
To this date, GFL is unable to advise the community what caused the odours.
As a result, neighbours formed a community advocacy group called “Stand for Stoney Creek” to demand answers from GFL, the City of Hamilton, and the regulator (Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks). We received no satisfactory answers to explain the horrendous summer experienced by the community.
Now, the strong odours have returned, and we have exhausted all advocacy efforts to mitigate and fix the problems.
We have now formed a GoFundMe account to raise funds for legal counsel and subsequent legal action if required. Our intention is to make GFL, the City of Hamilton and the Ministry take responsibility and resolve the issues and compensate the community forthwith. This may involve doing our own air quality testing.
Stand for Stoney Creek has selected two community officers to register a bank account as a non-profit organization and be accountable for all funds raised.
Please consider contributing in our efforts to obtain legal counsel in order to pursue a legal solution to this effort. The intent is to use legal counsel to assist in our mitigation efforts, and if not, launch a class action lawsuit.
Thank you for your support.
We will keep you updated through here and the FB group.
