Hi - my name is Nancy. I am fundraising on behalf of Pleasant View Protection Corporation (PVPC).
There is a Niagara Escarpment Plan amendment application (PW 218 20) that is seeking to permit a 1,000-student private secondary school in an area called Pleasant View about 7 km from downtown Dundas, Ontario. Pleasant View is not just a rural area, it is a very special rural area deemed ecologically significant.
Although the application is seeking to repurpose an existing building, this should NOT be considered a good thing the way we would normally view repurposing. The proposed new use, a very large institutional use, is a much more intense use compared to what has historically existed on the property. The application is also asking to build a very large new gymnasium on the property and significantly expand the existing onsite sewage treatment system. This school should go in the urban area where the students live, downtown Hamilton, so it can leverage municipal infrastructure such as the municipal wastewater system and the existing transportation network. The school would be very welcome in downtown Hamilton! Allowing this school in Pleasant View would have negative effects on the environment and area. For example, the transportation alone would cause unnecessary additional pollution and traffic congestion if allowed in Pleasant View remote from where the students reside in downtown Hamilton. For anyone familiar with York Road (connecting downtown Dundas to Highway 6), you likely know how congested traffic on this road already is at rush hour. Potentially 240 vehicle trips per school day would be added to York Road if this application is approved!
Although a video is provided that explains some of the reasons the application should be rejected, the best way to learn about the reasons why the 1,000-student private school is a very bad idea is to read the public comments. To learn more, please watch the video provided and/or visit PVPA.ca.
Funds collected will be used to fight against this application.
Thank you!
