We are opposing a planning application for a 10-storey, 121-bedroom Travelodge hotel at 1 Rennie's Isle.

We believe this proposal represents a serious overdevelopment of a small and highly sensitive site at the heart of Leith's historic waterfront. The scale and bulk of the building would dominate its surroundings, impacting Rennie's Isle, neighbouring residential communities and the wider character of The Shore.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help us give our community the strongest possible voice and help protect the future of this unique part of Leith for generations to come.

The development would loom over the Grade A listed Victoria Swing Bridge and the Shore Conservation Area, causing harm to the setting of some of Leith's most important historic assets and undermining the distinctive character that makes this area so special.

We are also concerned about the potential impact on local traffic and transport networks. With the area already experiencing significant disruption from major infrastructure works in recent years, this proposal risks creating further pressure on local roads, businesses and residents.

If approved, this would not be a temporary change. The proposed hotel operator is expected to occupy the site under a lease of around 25 years, meaning the consequences of this decision could be felt by the community for a generation.

To ensure that local voices are properly heard and that the application receives the scrutiny it deserves, we want to engage independent Planning, Transport and Heritage consultants to provide expert analysis and help us submit the strongest possible objections.

We need to raise £2,000 to £4,000 to fund this work. The more we raise the more we can achieve.

Whether you live in Leith, regularly visit The Shore, care about Edinburgh's historic environment, or simply believe that new development should respect local communities and heritage, we would be grateful for your support.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help us give our community the strongest possible voice and help protect the future of this unique part of Leith for generations to come.
