(willst du schnell gehen, geh alleine, willst du weit kommen, geh mit anderen) wir wollen weit gehen, so weit, bis auf dem Gelände der baobab children foundation kein Müll mehr die Umwelt verschmutzt und keine Belastung für Mensch und Umwelt durch offen verbrannten Müll besteht. Dazu wollen wir einen Müllverbrennungsofen bauen, ein Projekt, was 16.000 Euro kosten wird.
Lasst uns zusammen gehen um dieses Ziel gemeinsam zu erreichen, wir freuen uns über alle, die uns auf unserem Weg ein Stück begleiten.

We want to go far, so far, until there is no more waste polluting the environment on the premises of the baobab children foundation and no more pollution for people and the environment by openly burned waste. For this we want to build a waste incinerator, a project that will cost 16,000 euros.

Die Baobab Children Foundation ist eine Nicht-Regierungs-Organisation (NGO), die vor 20 Jahren von der Freiburgerin Edith de Vos ins Leben gerufen wurde. Ich, Felicitas Greis, bin derzeit als Freiwillige vor Ort, lebe im Center und betreue unter anderem diese Kampagne.
Die Organisation bietet Kindern in Ghana, die am Rande der Gesellschaft leben und in ihrem bisherigen Leben wenig bis keinen Zugang zu Bildung hatten, die Möglichkeit für eine selbstbestimmte und erfüllende Zukunft.
Die gut hundert Kinder leben im Center und lernen gemeinsam, sowohl im akademischen als auch im praktischen Unterricht. Zum praktischen Unterricht gehören zum einen die Workshops, in denen die Kinder ein traditionelles und gleichzeitig zukunftsrelevantes Handwerk erlernen, zum anderen die Mitarbeit auf der Schulfarm, auf der Obst und Gemüse auf biologische Weise angebaut wird. Dabei zielt aller Unterricht darauf ab, den Kindern die bestmöglichsten Startbedingungen für ihren späteren beruflichen Werdegang zu ermöglichen.

Die Baobab Children Foundation steht für die Wahrung und Aufrechterhaltung der internationalen Kinderrechte: sie ermöglicht den Kindern kostenlosen Zugang zu Bildung und duldet keine körperliche oder erniedrigende Bestrafung, gibt ihnen Zeit für Spiel und kreativen Ausdruck, sorgt für Hygienestandards und eine gesunde Ernährung.
Zum Wahren der körperlichen Unversehrtheit sowie einer lebenswerten Zukunft der Kinder, gehört auch ein verantwortungsbewusster Umgang mit der Umwelt und dem Müll.
Dazu wurde das „Waste Management Programm“ ins Leben gerufen. In Workshops lernen die Schüler*innen über die Gefahren von Müll für sich und die ganze Welt und erarbeiten Möglichkeiten, Müll zu vermeiden.
Alle Schüler*innen und Mitarbeiter*innen sind dazu angehalten, Müll in den bereits aufgestellten Mülltonnen zu trennen, Bioabfälle werden kompostiert und als Dünger verwendet, aus Plastiktüten entstehen Taschen für den Verkauf im Baobab Laden in Cape Coast. Trotzdem bleibt leider immer noch viel Müll übrig. Dieser wird auf dem Gelände gesammelt und von Zeit zu Zeit verbrannt.
Dies birgt viele Risiken: die Feuer sind nicht immer zu kontrollieren, vom Wind verwehte glühende Partikel können Buschbrände verursachen. Im Sammlungsprozess wird der Müll durch Wind verteilt und verbreitet sich in der Umgebung. Da der Müll offen verbrannt wird, werden die austretenden giftigen Gase direkt eingeatmet.
Aus diesem Grund plant die Baobab Children Foundation den Bau einer Müllverbrennungsanlage. Hier wird der Müll in einem geschlossenen Ofen bei sehr hohen Temperaturen verbrannt, die Gefahr von Buschfeuern und Funkenflug bleibt aus. Über einen hohen Schornstein gelangt der entstehende Rauch nicht in die Lungen der Schüler*innen, sodass keine Atembeschwerden auftreten. Auch ist die Verbrennungstemperatur im Ofen so hoch, dass toxische Stoffe weitgehend zerstört werden, der Rauch also eine geringere Umweltbelastung darstellt. Die nach dem Verbrennungsprozess zurückbleibende Asche kann außerdem als Dünger verwendet werden.
Der Bau der Müllverbrennungsanlage wird in Kooperation mit „Sedem Constructing“ stattfinden, Schüler*innen sowie Mitarbeiter*innen sollen im Prozess mit einbezogen werden, trotzdem ist dies kein Projekt, was alleine von Laien durchgeführt werden kann. Das hier gesammelte Geld deckt sowohl Materialkosten als auch die Bezahlung der professionellen Arbeiter*innen.
Der Umgang mit Müll ist leider ein landesweites Problem. Lediglich in den großen Städten gibt es eine Müllabfuhr, andernorts wird der Müll, ähnlich wie von der Baobab Children Foundation gesammelt und offen verbrannt, Müll und verunreinigtes Wasser gelangt in Flüsse, Seen und ins Meer. Dass fast alle Produkte aus hygienischen oder aus Gründen der Haltbarkeit in Plastik verpackt werden, verstärkt diese Problematik und lässt den Müllberg weiter wachsen.
Ein Bewusstsein für einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit Müll gibt es leider kaum.
Baobab möchte in Sachen Umweltbewusstsein und dem verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit Müll Vorreiter sein und erworbenes Wissen weitergeben. So soll die Müllverbrennungsanlage auch für die Menschen der angrenzenden Stadt zugänglich sein, Aufklärungsarbeit in Form von Workshops und einem Tanztheater „stop the pollution, be part of the solution“ ist in Planung.

The project
The Baobab Children Foundation is a non-governmental organization (NGO), which was founded 20 years ago by Edith de Vos from Freiburg. I, Felicitas Greis, am currently a volunteer on site, living at the center and overseeing this campaign, among other things.
The organization offers children in Ghana, who live on the fringes of society and have had little or no access to education in their previous lives, the opportunity for a self-determined and fulfilling future.
A good hundred children live in the center and learn together, both in academic and practical lessons. The practical lessons include workshops in which the children learn a traditional and at the same time future-relevant craft, as well as working on the school farm, where fruits and vegetables are grown in an organic way. The aim of all the lessons is to provide the children with the best possible starting conditions for their future careers.

Baobab Children Foundation stands for upholding and maintaining international children’s rights: providing children with free access to education and not tolerating corporal or degrading punishment, giving them time for play and creative expression, ensuring hygiene standards and a healthy diet.
Maintaining the physical integrity as well as a livable future for the children, also includes a responsible approach to the environment and waste.
To this end, the „Waste Management Program“ was launched. In workshops, the students learn about the dangers of waste for themselves and the whole world and work out ways to avoid waste.
All students and staff are encouraged to separate garbage in the garbage cans already set up, organic waste is composted and used as fertilizer, plastic bags are made into bags for sale in the Baobab store in Cape Coast. Nevertheless, unfortunately, there is still a lot of garbage left over. This is collected on the premises and burned from time to time.
This involves many risks: the fires cannot always be controlled, glowing particles blown by the wind can cause bush fires. In the collection process, the garbage is dispersed by wind and spreads in the surrounding area. Since the garbage is burned openly, the toxic gases emitted are directly inhaled.
For this reason, the Baobab Children Foundation is planning to build a garbage incinerator. Here, the garbage will be burned in a closed furnace at very high temperatures, eliminating the danger of bush fires and flying sparks. A high chimney prevents the smoke from reaching the students‘ lungs, so that they do not experience any respiratory problems. The combustion temperature in the stove is also so high that toxic substances are largely destroyed, meaning that the smoke has a lower environmental impact. The ash that remains after the incineration process can also be used as fertilizer.
The construction of the incinerator will take place in cooperation with „Sedem Constructing“, students as well as employees will be involved in the process, nevertheless this is not a project that can be carried out by laymen alone. The money collected here covers both material costs and the payment of the professional workers.
Dealing with garbage is unfortunately a nationwide problem. Only in the big cities is there a garbage collection system, elsewhere the garbage is collected and openly burned, similar to the Baobab Children Foundation, garbage and contaminated water ends up in rivers, lakes and the sea. The fact that almost all products are packaged in plastic for hygienic or shelf-life reasons exacerbates this problem and causes the mountain of garbage to continue to grow.
Unfortunately, there is hardly any awareness of how to deal responsibly with waste.
Baobab wants to be a pioneer in environmental awareness and the responsible handling of waste and pass on acquired knowledge. For example, the waste incineration plant will also be accessible to the people of the neighboring city, and educational work in the form of workshops and a dance theater „stop the pollution, be part of the solution“ is being planned.
