Stop The Pit -- Protecting the Place We Call Home
Those of us who live in the Spring Grove and Fox Lake area know exactly why we chose this place. We treasure the quiet mornings, the open skies, the lakes and parks that grace this land, and the small‑town warmth that makes strangers feel like neighbors. This is a community where families grow, memories are made, and people come to breathe a little easier.
But all of that is at risk.
Land Reserves, Inc (owned by Jack Pease) has proposed a large-scale gravel mining operation in the heart of our community — directly next to homes, families, and sensitive natural areas. Industrial mining does not belong in any residential setting, and certainly not here. The impacts are well‑documented: noise, dust, truck traffic, groundwater threats, environmental damage, and declining property values.
Because of the work of Stop The Pit, the project has already been slowed, challenged, and forced to confront serious obstacles. Our research, organization, and public engagement are making a real difference. But the fight is not over.
Stop the Pit is a community-led coalition committed to using every legal and regulatory avenue available to oppose this project. We are organized, informed, and determined — and we are having an impact. But this work is not free. We need additional money to make sure we can finish what we’ve started. Your donation helps fund the essential work required to protect our community: expert analysis, public outreach, legal and environmental review, and the tools needed to keep residents informed and engaged. Every contribution, large or small, strengthens our ability to stand up for our homes, our health, and our future.
If you value the peace, beauty, and safety of this community, please consider supporting this effort. Together, we can protect what makes Spring Grove and Fox Lake so special — not just for today, but for generations to come.
Thank you for standing with us.
