Join us in supporting our efforts to stop the development of Project Loon, a hyper-scale data center proposed for 278 acres in the rural southwest corner of Hermantown, Minnesota, adjacent to St. Louis
County’s Midway and Solway Townships.
We are asking for your financial support to help cover necessary legal fees, filing costs, printing and informational materials, and related expenses as we work to ensure that our local government and
community is engaged in a fair and transparent process while discussing development.
Stop The Hermantown Data Center group (SHDC) is a nonpartisan, grassroots, collaborative group uniting local residents opposed to Project Loon and the significant negative environmental and economic impacts it will have on our rural community. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit and can receive charitable donations in support of our efforts to protect our community. Your donation will make a difference!

Every contribution — no matter the amount — helps us to challenge this data center for the benefit of the entire community and ensure that the future of our community lasts.
Here’s what we’ve accomplished since September 2025:
- Completing a petition seeking a mandatory Environmental Assessment Worksheet to the State of Minnesota Environmental Quality Board Petition challenging Hermantown’s Alternative Urban Area Review forced Hermantown to pause.
- We joined a lawsuit with the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy (MCEA) appealing the City of Hermantown’s environmental study and asking the court to halt the project.
- Organized multiple local demonstrations.
- Support a local petition to start a City Charter Commission to remove Hermantown City Councilors.
- Organized events at the State Capitol to advocate for better data center regulation.
- Submitted editorials to local newspapers.
- Participated in numerous local and national media interviews and reports.
- Testified at the State Capitol in support of the moratorium and NDA ban bills.
- Advocated our concerns at every Hermantown City Council meeting, pre-agenda meetings, HEDA meetings, P/Z meetings, Utility commission meetings.
- Established a FaceBook group page (www.facebook.com/groups/796960939748436/ ).
- Attend and advocate our concerns at MPUC meetings, EQB Board meetings , and Saint Louis County Board meetings and submit public comments
- Connected with other communities and grassroots organizations in Wisconsin and Minnesota working to stop the secret and intrusive expansion of data centers in our local communities.
- Researched THOUSANDS of pages of “secret” documents received through Minnesota Government Data Processes Act from the city of Hermantown, St Louis County, and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
- Filed a Lawsuit against the City of Hermantown
With the support of hundreds of volunteers SHDC has done incredible things! And we will continue our work as long as a hyper-scale data center continues to threaten our lives and our community. Please join
us with a gift today.
Thank you!
