SCI-Corp has over 2,000 funeral home locations across the US, and they have an active application to open another location at the corner of 141 (Peachtree Pkwy) and Granite Ln. The Forsyth County Planning Board unanimously approved (5-0 vote) on Nov 16, 2021 to grant the permit.
Typical home values decrease by 6.5% when in proximity to a funeral home (https://www.realtor.com/news/trends/things-that-affect-your-property-value/). Home prices in our area range from about $500k to $1M, which means each family could face a $32k - $65k hit to the resale value of their home.
The final Forsyth County Board of Commissioners review for final approval is on Dec 16, 2021 (https://css.forsythco.com/EnerGov_Prod/SelfService/#/plan/636f730e-320b-42cd-80dc-fb99db7dd2aa). We are contracting Greg Hecht, JD, a lawyer who specializes in zoning and land use cases to help us fight the approval of this land use.
This GoFundMe page will be used to pay the lawyer's $7,500 retainer--a small price to preserve our property values. If someone contributes $200 and saves $50k in property value, that's an immediate 25,000% ROI.
Any money left over after the final decision (and appeal process, if required) will be returned pro rata to each contributor. Any money that is unable to be returned (loss of contact with contributor, etc.) will be donated to a Forsyth County charity.
