Stop the Asphalt Plant - East Canaan, CT
Donation protected
IT’S NOT OVER!
On September 11, 2019 B. Metcalf Paving, Inc. filed its fourth legal action against the Town of North Canaan Planning and Zoning Commission in Litchfield Superior Court. For those unfamiliar with the situation, B. Metcalf Paving is trying to put in an asphalt plant in the backyard of residences and within 1/3 of a mile of the Blackberry River. The Metcalf property was never an industrial manufacturing site. It is a rural area of farms and businesses, vineyard, a fishing club, residences, a church and state park. Will it remain so?
Any asphalt plant will risk area drinking water aquifers , the air quality, the health of residents , our safety , our general welfare and property values in the entire town of North Canaan.
Your donation will help STAP build a legal defense fund and public awareness campaign to meet this threat to our community.
The appeal letter below was sent out in the postal mail to residents.

As citizens of this community we must all step up and act as the North Canaan Zoning Ordinance, Article I, Intent and Purpose states,
"To promote and protect public health, safety and welfare."
If this threat is not met now the long term effect on community health, safety and welfare will certainly be at risk along with the property values that generate taxes that support town services and obligations. Not stopping this asphalt plant risks higher taxes to support our
community, not lower taxes.
Your help is needed now.
Thank you.
