Stop Sprawl HamOnt - Save Hamilton farmland!!
Donation protected
Hamilton is opposed to the Doug Ford Provincial Government's decision to override local planning decisions and expand our urban boundary onto prime farmland and wetlands. Sweeping over 3300 acres of prime agricultural land, wildlife habitat and wetlands surrounding our city into the urban fold to be paved for more sprawling subdivisions will be a financial and natural disaster. In addition, the Ford Government wants to hand over 1900 acres of Hamilton Greenbelt to developers to pave for sprawling out-of-the-way subdivisions. Hamilton City Council voted 13-3 in 2021 to rein in sprawl and proceed with a sustainable growth plan for our city that considers food security, preservation of farmland and wetlands and the crucial need for affordable and deeply affordable housing within our existing urban boundary. The Provincial Government has now overridden Hamilton's local decision and removed Greenbelt protections. They want to impose their provincial sprawl plan on us. Paving farmland for subdivisions and warehouses will destroy our prime agricultural land, drastically reduce our ability to provide affordable housing close to transit and jobs and increase our property taxes because sprawl growth does not pay for itself. Donating to this fundraiser will help cover the cost of advertising, website, and lawn signs. We would love your support to help us offset some of these costs. Thank you!
