In May 2025, Dr Rupa Marya—a tireless advocate for marginalizedafter 23 years of employment at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she worked as a Professor of Medicine.

She was fired illegally, without due process for her Palestinian human rights. After 18 months of harassment by UCSF leadership, Dr Marya is suing the UC Regents for violating her Constitutional and Civil Rights, in a case that will have wide-ranging impact in free speech, discrimination and labor.

"When doctors are silenced, people die," said Dr. Marya. “Since the genocide in Gaza began, healthcare workers have been silenced in our places of work and in medical institutions. This repression has accelerated and enabled Israel’s annihilation of the Palestinian people. As healthcare workers, we are obliged to speak up for health, for everyone. And we must never be punished when we do. UCSF sets a dangerous precedent here that we must fight, so we can continue to advocate for all people’s right to health.”

The funds raised here will go directly into a legal trust to pay for the costs of all court fees—depositions, filings, etc. Her legal team of some of the nation’s best lawyers fighting for our civil rights are all working pro bono. The estimated costs we are raising will allow the case to proceed smoothly.
