Stop Local Lead Poisoning: Support Families in Need

We’re raising funds for a local family in our community who is going through something no parent should ever face.
Two of their three young children have recently been diagnosed with lead poisoning. When this family moved into their home, they had no idea there were lead hazards present. They truly thought they were giving their kids a safe place to grow. Instead, they’ve been met with a situation that has been overwhelming, frightening, and incredibly expensive.
To make things even harder, the father; who is also the landlord of the property, has been taken to housing court. He is facing steep fines and even the risk of jail time, all while trying to care for his lead-poisoned children. Their youngest is still too little to even be tested yet, which has added another layer of worry for the family.
At Environmental Education Associates (EEA), we’ve stepped in to support them the best way we can. We’ve provided specialized lead-safe cleaning supplies, guidance, and hands-on training to help the dad address the interior issues safely. But the exterior work, additional repairs, and medical needs are far beyond what any family could reasonably manage on their own.
This family is doing everything right. They’re showing up, learning, cleaning, repairing, and advocating for their kids. But they need help.
With the holidays approaching, we want to rally around them and make this season feel even a little bit lighter. Your support—whether it’s a donation or volunteer time if you’re a contractor—will go directly toward:
- Critical exterior repairs and lead hazard removal
- Medical expenses and ongoing care for the children
- Basic needs and stability while the family navigates housing court
- Making sure these kids still get to experience a special holiday season
Our goal is to raise $25,000 and/or in-kind donations to repair the roof and back porch. Once these repairs are made, the property will become eligible for low-income housing and lead hazard control assistance.
