The State Government and the Gold Coast City Council are not listening to the residents of the Southern Gold Coast.
We don’t want the Light Rail.
We don’t need the Light Rail.
We don’t want the Trams running through our Priority Koala Conservation Area at Burleigh Heads National Park.
Hundreds of koala feed trees will be removed. Stage 2 completely annihilated a Koala Habitat at Parkwood on the Gold Coast. Even leaving koalas stranded on the construction site.
We don’t want anymore Inappropriate High Density High Rise Developments destroying our lifestyle.
These Developments are being approved and constructed even though most are drastically outside the City Plan Guidelines.
The Light Rail will destroy small businesses during the construction phase. Homes and entire Unit blocks may be resumed.
The State Government has already confessed that 1 Northbound lane and 1 Southbound lane of the Gold Coast Highway, south of 19th Ave, will be resumed to “squeeze" in the Light Rail.
The majority of car parks on both sides of the highway, from Tallebudgera Creek to Currumbin Creek will be removed in order for the Light Rail to “fit”. There are no Park n Rides planned.
The State Government are considering making Cypress Ave and Townsend Ave ONE WAY, as removing 2 lanes from the Highway will force drivers to use Cypress, Townsend and Mallawa to avoid congestion on the Highway.
Side streets will become One Way with angled parking therefore making residential streets cluttered and used for “rat running” to avoid the congestion the Trams will create on the highway.
It’s a fact the Light Rail brings “out of town” Crime to your neighbourhood. The Light Rail will form a Barrier to the Beach. Residents on the western side of the highway will have to walk long distances to cross the highway, as only 3 pedestrian crossings are planned. Stations are almost 1 kilometer apart. The Light Rail Bridge across Tallebudgera Creek (See above Photo) will run on the Eastern side of the existing road bridge. This means a loss of many car spaces in both Tallebudgera Creek car parks, Northside and Southside. A minimum 8.6 meters of Tallebudgera “Beach" will be resumed to make way for this unnecessary infrastructure. Jellurgal Aboriginal Centre do not want the Light Rail destroying this pristine and sacred area. We’ve designed large Stickers for your wheelie bins. We are designing a Billboard and we have identified a highly visible Billboard on the Gold Coast Highway to get our message across to the State Government . If we win our fight against the Light Rail and Overdevelopment, any unused funds will be donated to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
We must stop their vision for our community.
